Preparing for our first game was extremely nerve racking. We were unsure how many people would come to the games and how well everything would flow the night of the game. After lots of communication with Woodland Terrace and our school’s athletic office, we were able to come up with somewhere specific for the fans to sit and had out together items that they would receive the night of the game.
The week of our very first game, I was hospitalized and was unfortunately unable to come and help the rest of my group. I still wanted to be apart of the game so I contacted my team members and asked them to send me pictures and give me updates of how the game was going. After awhile, I finally got a message from one of my team mates saying that only one person from Woodland Terrace came to watch the game. I was a little disappointed because we had been anticipating 15-30 people. We have two more games left and I am hoping that we have a little bit of a better turnout. There is not much more my group can do, so all we can really do is wait for the games and rely on Woodland Terrace to get the word out to their members.

After several weeks of scheduling conflicts, we were finally able to get a meeting with people at Woodland Terrace. We met with Lindsey and Cole who are the some of the main people in charge there. When we met with them, Mr. Large and Mr. Cooper came along as well to help answer any questions that we may not be able to. After pitching our idea to them, they were very interested in the potential this project could have! We looked at the boys and girls basketball schedule to see which games we would like to invite the members of Woodland Terrace too. We ended up on choosing 5 games for the boys and 3 for the girls. If the first couple games go well, we will try to bring them to more games on the schedule. Now that we have decided upon games for them to come to, we now need to choose a time for us to go meet with the members at Woodland Terrace. It is important for us to create a connection with the members so they are more interested in coming to the games. My group and I plan on going to lunch at Woodland Terrace sometime next week. While there we will hopefully make connections with them. Once we have done this event, we also plan on trying to go back with players from the girls and boys team. We will then create things for them to use at the game such as signs! More updates and hopefully pictures will come soon!! Now that my project with Imagination Library is over, Megan and I have decided to pair up again to work on a new project. Unlike our last one, this is a brand new project so we have to start from scratch. The name of our project is called Senior Super Fans. We plan to take members from Woodland Terrace; which is the senior living home in New Palestine, and take them to athletic events at the high school. The goal is to allow seniors get to joy from new connections, relationships and fun events to look forward to. With this we also plan for student athletes to gain valuable experiences by being able to connect with seniors at Woodland Terrace. To start off our project we plan on going over to Woodland Terrace bonding with the members there at various events such as their craft night and their fall festival.
On a game night, we plan on having Woodland Terrace use their buses and bring some members to some of our sporting events. At the games we plan to create and designate a "Senior Super Fan" section for them to sit in. Everyone who comes will either get a t-shirt or throw towel that will help unify them. We also plan on creating a hospitality crew that will help with seating, refreshments, and just "hanging out" with the members from Woodland Terrace during the game. I am very excited to see where this project goes. I believe it has a lot of potential!! |
